But the rest of the country, for foreigners, is very secure and the travel advisory doesn't really convey that. Even in cities, the crime seemed to be much more of an issue for Hondurans.
I too am unsure about solutions. The money being spent on taking the migrants into custody, housing them and sending them home could in theory be used to address the issues in Honduras that encourage them to take the risk of migration. But that would require working government and social structures in the country.
No easy answers.
paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11003637352818760817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400574.post-23160590039922751672014-06-27T09:59:30.931-07:002014-06-27T09:59:30.931-07:00I am sure - edit for me, I am NOT sureI am sure - edit for me, I am NOT sureAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05913240698925025195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400574.post-51737263855333543372014-06-27T09:58:57.920-07:002014-06-27T09:58:57.920-07:00I love the post. Our guard at my work project was murdered one night a few years ago, but nothing was stolen. A warning from the gangs, we were told, to let them continue stealing our medical supplies. I have had multiple attempted break-ins at my home as well as one successful entry, which I am so grateful I was not home. Two pastor friends have been kidnapped and released after extortion attempted.

I hear the poor in Teguz believe the rumors about sending their young teens to the US. I am trying to dispel the rumors one person at a time, in hopes they will pass it on to others.

I am torn over how and what should be done. I hear the cry of the poor in Honduras, yet I understand the problem of absorbing thousands upon thousands of nearly orphaned adolescents. Today, as usual, I saw a young man work his way down my residential street, checking our trash for pick up for anything of value. Not a way to live, is it? We do not need improved TFWPs, we need improved immigration policies - ones that value labour every bit as much as they value big foreign bank accounts.Mr. Beer N.
