Why is that? I'm not a teacher but I bet it's because they spend more time on teaching and learning and not on testing. Wouldn't it make sense, in a pragmatic way, to try and emulate a system that we know is clearly superior to ours? Nope, not in BC! I'm starting to get suspicious that what is really going on is an attempt to slowly destroy our public education system. After all, an educated public is dangerous to the corporatist agenda, is it not?KenChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11890843297372297183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400574.post-74902172149745349022011-01-26T08:06:18.036-08:002011-01-26T08:06:18.036-08:00How many teachers have you spoken to over the issu...How many teachers have you spoken to over the issue? What's stunning, even tragic, is that the BC Liberals have whipped even usually level-headed philosophers like yourself into a lather over yet another anti-teachers' union wedge issue. If the Campbellites were honestly interested in the welfare of British Columbia's children they've had a decade to prove it. Why don't you recite for your readership the Liberal Government track record in that regard?

Raymond GrahamAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400574.post-59206505019555645452011-01-26T00:27:13.657-08:002011-01-26T00:27:13.657-08:00Paul, you say its in the interests of teachers/uni...Paul, you say its in the interests of teachers/union members to oppose the tests. How so? The teachers aren't the ones taking the tests, they aren't being graded, at least that's what the government claims. If the government is wrong, tell me.

If one school performs worse than another are you telling me the teacher is to blame? Tell me when and where a teacher was fired for that outcome since we started these tests.Franknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400574.post-9118061138338060632011-01-25T19:43:55.763-08:002011-01-25T19:43:55.763-08:00Our grand daughter is a teacher, and has taught in...Our grand daughter is a teacher, and has taught in two private schools and one public school. She and other teachers know that the kids with more well off families as a general rule do better. It's damn hard to learn if you have no breakfast before getting into the school, or the parents are not that interested, or don't have good parenting skills. So just what are the tests going to prove? Make some kids feel dumber than they are, possibly? I don't care who brought in the tests I believe the teacher know their jobs, and the principals agree. The idea that parent groups are more attuned to what they kids need doesn't wash with us. Heck anyone can teach the answers but does it make for better students? Do we have kids? Yes three adult ones and four grand kids,( our daughters kids) two have two degrees the other a licensed tradesman. The younger one is finishing off his Bsc. this year.. The three went to private schools, a bit of a struggle for a working family, the trades guy refused to go to university so stayed in the public system. Our youngest grandchild( our son's child) is in the public system and has been struggling but will make it.Standard testing didn't make any of them better students.Keep the politicians out of the teaching.DPLnoreply@blogger.com
